What is the difference between 600V and 1200V FRED modules?

600V FRED modules are designed for 400V AC input systems (rectified to ~565V DC) and offer faster recovery times (35-40ns). 1200V FRED modules are for 690V AC industrial systems (rectified to ~975V DC) with recovery times of 50-55ns. Choose 600V for standard industrial drives, 1200V for high-voltage applications.

Check your DC bus voltage and select FRED with 1.5-2x voltage margin.

How does recovery time affect my application?

Recovery time (trr) determines switching losses in high-frequency applications. Faster recovery (35ns) reduces switching losses at frequencies above 50KHz, ideal for PFC and high-frequency inverters. Standard recovery (50ns) is sufficient for motor drives operating at 5-15KHz. Soft recovery characteristic also affects EMI - MacMic FREDs offer soft recovery to minimize voltage overshoot.

Can I use MacMic FRED modules as anti-parallel diodes for IGBTs?

Yes, MacMic FRED modules are specifically designed for anti-parallel diode applications. Match the FRED voltage rating to your IGBT module (600V FRED with 600V IGBT, 1200V FRED with 1200V IGBT). Current rating should be 50-100% of IGBT current depending on duty cycle. The soft recovery characteristic helps reduce EMI and switching losses in inverter applications.
